CANNES, France — Baz Luhrmann’s “Elvis” introduced hip-shaking swagger to the Cannes Movie Competition on Wednesday, debuting a grand and glitzy portrait of the Memphis rock ‘n’ roll legend on the French Riviera.
Luhrmann’s movie, the most important and flashiest Hollywood movie making its world premiere in Cannes, introduced Tom Hanks and Austin Butler, who performs Presley, to Cannes’ famed crimson carpet. Becoming a member of them, too, was Priscilla Presley, Presley’s ex-wife, who has enthusiastically endorsed Luhrmann’s film.
